Me

A Little About Myself

My name is Crystal Keshane. I am a wife and a mother to three four-legged fur babies named Bubs, Buddy and Bailey. I am from Cote First Nation and  was born February 3, 1993 in Kamsack Saskatchewan. My passions in life are showing my creativity through make-up, fishing, beading, cheering on my husband as he plays fastball, and of course teaching! I am also very family orientated. I come from a big family, so anytime I can be around all of them is a blessing.

Education:

Throughout my years of schooling I had attended three different schools. For my early years of education I attended the Chief Gabriel Cote Education Complex, later I attended the Kamsack Victoria Elementary school, and for my high school years I attended the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute. I graduated from grade 12 in June of 2011 from the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute at the age of 18. In 2012 I graduated from the Parkland College in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Here I obtained a Welding Applied Certificate. However, welding was not something I wanted to commit my life too.

Growing up I always wanted to be a photographer or a teacher. As I got older, teaching was the route I wanted to take. However, I did not start my education journey on becoming a teacher until 2015. Moving four hours away from home was something that I was not comfortable with. When the Bachelor of Indigenous Education program was offered in Yorkton (which is located only one hour away from home), I was ecstatic and jumped at the opportunity! I was accepted and have been working towards my education degree since! I am currently finishing up my third year. I have six classes and a four-month internship to go before I have that degree!

Experience with Children:

I love children! Currently right now I do not have my own children due to health reasons. I have had experience growing up with my nieces and nephews. I take them as my own. This past summer (2017), I worked as a Child Care Worker with The Yorkton Tribal Council Child Family Services. This job gave me the opportunity to care, love and teach children from ages 0-12 years of age. Children thrive when they have positive support systems put in place and child care workers and teachers can be apart of those systems for these children. My goal as an educator is to be patient, be kind, be understanding and have listening ears! I want to help children succeed in all aspects of their lives, I want to give children the knowledge to be successful in the real world, and most importantly let them know they can achieve whatever they put their minds too. The entire galaxy is the limit!
